Tooth color and digital dentistry : from subjectivity to objective reality…
The search for beauty is universal, but its correct evaluation is tainted with subjectivity which is a major issue in cosmetic dentistry. This brings an additional level of difficulty specific to this discipline beyond any technical considerations. Perception is also important when assessing dental whitening results with success rates specific to each patient and in some cases still far from their expectations even with a clear improvement. In these situations the patient may even conclude that the treatment simply did not work for them. The purpose of this presentation will be to discuss the contribution of digital technology in the analysis of color and thus to see how to move from subjective perception to a more objective reality of color evaluation in dentistry in order to improve both our understanding of tooth whitening process and our communication possibilities with the patient.
